Review: Ms. Blue's class has been looking forward to their pumpkin patch field trip for a long time, and finally the day has come. Their tour through Farmer Mixenmatch's pumpkin patch includes many exciting stops, such as a petting zoo, a cornfield maze, a beehive, and of course the pumpkin patch. Each page of this book features a large illustration and 1-3 lines of text. Counting backwards from twenty, each page also focuses on a number: twenty nametags, nineteen students, and so on. The featured number is written in large characters and enclosed in a pumpkin in the upper right or left hand corner.
The simple, rhyming text and colorful illustrations are perfect for an early reader and provide a fun way to practice reading comprehension and counting skills. Children and adults alike will appreciate the detailed illustrations that imbue each of Ms. Blue’s diverse group of students with an individual personality. Because of the focus on farms and agriculture, Pumpkin Countdown could be paired with lessons about sustainability and food, as well as with field trips to local farms or pumpkin patches.
The inside front cover has a list of pumpkin facts.
