Review:
Papa brings his son Pedro along to the market, announcing that the pair must find a new burro.  Papa and Pedro see many burros at the market, but the perfect burro for their need finds them!

While the book does not directly discuss monetary exchange at the marketplace, this is easily addressed by a teacher or parent reading the book along with the child.  In addition, the book looks heavily at evaluating the types of goods available for purchase as Papa discusses with Pedro the merits of the various burros they see.

Intended as a resource for emergent readers, the narrative is short and simple with no unnecessary embellishments.  This makes this book ideal not only for beginning readers but also as a read-aloud with toddlers and preschoolers.  The illustrations are also fairly simplistic but fit precisely with the story and add just a bit of extra details that children will love, like Papa raising his hat in greeting or a small cat sleeping in the courtyard.
