Title: At the Supermarket
Author and Illustrator: Anne Rockwell
Publisher: Henry Holt and Company
Concepts: consumers, goods, choices
Review: A young child enjoys going to the supermarket with his mother to load up the cart with food items and supplies that they need in the week ahead. They have to make many choices since the shelves are filled with numerous options, but they work together to find just the right cheese, eggs, coffee, bread, fruits, vegetables, and paper products. Most important, of course, are the ingredients for his birthday cake, making this particular trip to the grocery store a special one. Noted children's book author Anne Rockwell uses her signature charm to transform this tale of a routine chore into a story of parent-child bonding and decision making.
