Review: Mario has just received a pair of new shoes in the mail from his mother. He will need those shoes to travel with his father from El Salvador to meet his mother, who already lives in the United States. The journey proves long and arduous, with three countries to travel through on foot and by bumpy buses, and those shoes certainly take a beating.
This book, based on the author’s actual experience immigrating into the United States from El Salvador, presents a compelling view of the hardships experienced by some migrants with big hopes but limited resources.
